Dr. Sarwat MalikDr. Malik is a Co – Founder of the GPWG. She is a Fellow of the American College of Physician, a life member of American Medical Women’s Association of North America, Monroe County Medical Society, Association of Pakistani Physicians of North America as well as Islamic Medical Association of North America. She was the founding president of the Medical Women’s Association of Rochester. She retired as CEO of Sarwat Malik, M.D, PC in 2008 after 35 years of Medical practice. She is a Benefactor of the Center for Interfaith Studies and Dialogue in Pittsford, NY and serves on the CISD Advisory Board. She has received several awards including Medical Medal of Honor for her service to Rochester, NY’s indigenous community. ‘Woman of the Year award’ by Women’s Forum of the Islamic Center of Rochester 2007, Women eNews, ’21 Leaders for 21st century in 2010, as a Healer with a Mission’ and was honored on International Women’s Day in 2011 for her lifelong dedication and commitment to the empowerment of women and girls. She has served on several Medical and non Medical community boards and chaired and organized educational programs in the United States and internationally. Sarwat is a Co – Founder of the Muslim Women’s Fund.

 

Nadia S. Malik*

Co-Founder & CEO

Nadia S. MalikNadia Malik is the Co – Founder and CEO of the Global Partnership for Women and Girls. By way of background, Nadia is a founding board member of Hands on Louisville; a 'Hands on Network' affiliate and has a corporate banking background with Brown Brothers Harriman and First Union National Bank (now Wachovia). Nadia holds a B.A. in Economics and an M.B.A. in Finance, Business & Public Policy and Organization & Markets from the University of Rochester and has completed coursework at the Wharton School and Columbia University and Executive Education at Harvard and Columbia Business Schools. In 2009, Nadia was designated a "Muslim Leader of Tomorrow" by the American Society for Muslim Advancement. In 2011, MWF Co-Founders (now the GPWG), Nadia and Dr. Sarwat Malik, were ranked #9 (out of 10) on OnWallStreet.com's Power Giver's List: Philanthropic Women Helping Women. Nadia currently serves as Chairman, Board of Governors, Off The Record, founded in 1938 under the aegis of the Foreign Policy Association and member, Board of Directors, Foreign Policy Association and SUNY Brockport Foundation. Nadia is a Fellow of the BMW World Young Leaders Forum and Member, 2016 Arthur Vining Davis Fellow (Aspen Institute) and Member, Program Committee at the Harvard Club of New York.

 

 

Ibrahim AlHusseini

Ibrahim is a venture capitalist and philanthropist dedicated to advancing social change in the world and in Muslim societies that adversely impact women and girls. He, too, believes that the choice for education and economic opportunity is the only way up and out but that the solutions are local. Mr. AlHusseini is the great nephew of Hind Alhusseini. In the 1950′s, Hind converted her grandfather’s mansion into a school to educate orphaned children affected by war. It was Hind AlHusseini’s belief and dedication to the education of women and girls as a pathway to peace that the film MIRAL, by Julian Schnabel, was based. Mr. AlHusseini was involved in the marketing of MIRAL in the United States.

Ibrahim is the Founder and managing partner of The Husseini Group LLC, a firm dedicated to facilitating and financing ventures that embrace social enhancement and ecological sustainability. He Co-founded Natural Solutions Inc., a pioneer in the field of marketing of natural industrial cleaning products. Conceptualized, financed and executed a pioneering corporation in the servicing of independent Automated Teller Machines: Accent Teller Services Inc., which was sold to Merrimak Inc. in 2005. Co-financed Advanced Laser Clinics Inc. in 2000, which was sold to American Laser Clinics in 2006. Mr. AlHusseini co-founded Meca Communications Inc., the leading online marketing group designing and implementing private-label instant messaging strategies. Ibrahim has been instrumental in funding PakIT Inc., a leading designer, developer, and supplier of cellulose fiber molding equipment to the packaging industry, over the last 5 years. Mr. AlHusseini co-founded EcoPerks, and is a former board member of PakIT Inc., TherapySites.com, The Holistic Alliance, Meca Communications, Natural Solutions Inc., and Accent Teller Services, Inc. Salma Merchant Rahmathulla

Salma Merchant RahmathullaSalma leads Business Development at Pelicans Group, a family-owned multi-national leather design and manufacturing company with operations in the US, U.K and India. Prior to joining Pelicans in 2005, Salma served as a Program Officer at the World Bank’s Poverty Reduction Unit in DC, focusing on partnerships related to aid, trade and debt and consulted for the United Nations Financing for Development Office. She began her career at J.P. Morgan’s London and Paris offices in Credit Risk Management and Private Banking. In parallel with her professional endeavors in the last 11 years, Salma has extensively undertaken developmental activities through varied channels: she helped create a Human Rights Programme for the BBC, ran JPMorgan Paris’ charity campaign, consulted for various Indian NGO’s, undertook extensive fieldwork in villages in India, co-founded the EKTA Youth Foundation focused on fundraising for educational projects in South Asia and is a member of CARE’s Women’s Initiative Steering Committee.

She is an avid traveller and has hosted her own travel show. Salma holds a Bachelors degree in Management and French from Royal Holloway and a Masters from the London School of Economics.

 

Ahd Kamel

Ahd KamelA native of Saudi Arabia, Ahd Kamel is an award winning filmmaker and actress based in New York City. Ahd produced, wrote, and directed her debut short Al-Gundurji (The Shoemaker) which won The Golden Aleph for Best Middle Eastern Short at Beirut International Film Festival, second prize at the Gulf Film Festival, Dubai, and the special jury mention at Oran, Algeria. The short film competed at over a dozen international film festivals including the prestigious Clermont- Ferrand Short Film Festival.

In her acting debut Razan, she won the Golden Gate Award for Best Actress at the San Francisco International Film Festival, officially screened at Rotterdam International Film Festival along with Alla Fein, Kamel’s short production debut. Working in Hollywood and alongside Peter Berg on The Kingdom, Ahd’s roles included set assistant and technical advisor. In 2008, Ahd received the Cloeween Connection award from the ADACH for an emerging Middle Eastern filmmaker presented by Spike Lee. Ahd was invited as a guest judge in the inaugural year of Tropfest Arabia, the largest short film festival in world.

In March 2012, Ahd joined “Global Partnership for Women and Girls” Executive Committee, alongside Co – Founders Nadia and Sarwat Malik. She hopes to support and empower Muslim women and girls around the world by bringing awareness to the role of the creative arts in the development and evolution of an individual and their community.

Ahd founded Odd Camel Films, a production company focused on developing and producing Middle Eastern films and global creative media projects. Ahd studied acting under the tutelage of William Esper at the Esper Studio in New York City. She received her directing degree from New York Film Academy and has a BFA in Animation & Communication Design from Parsons School of Design.
